Real estate slideshow maker
Real estate slideshow maker, or a film: what the difference costs you
Most photo to video tools for real estate are slideshow makers: drop in photos, pick a transition, export. That is sometimes all you need. Here is where a slideshow falls short, and how to tell which one a listing deserves.

What a slideshow maker actually does
Canva, iMovie, CapCut and the slideshow features built into many CRMs work the same way. You pick the photos and their order. Each gets the same duration, usually 2 or 3 seconds, and the same zoom or pan. You choose a track, add text, export.
They are good tools. Canva has excellent templates and you probably already pay for it. iMovie is free on a Mac. If you want full control and enjoy editing, they will do the job. The question is what the result does in a feed.
Slideshow versus planned film, side by side
| Typical slideshow | Planned listing film | |
|---|---|---|
| Photo selection | You choose; often all of them | Weaker angles and near duplicates left out |
| Order | Upload order | A walkthrough order, with the strongest shot first |
| Shot length | Fixed, 2 to 3 seconds | Varies with the room and the music |
| Motion | The same zoom on every photo | Push, pull, orbit, crane or hold, chosen per shot from depth in the photo |
| Words | Text you type | A hook and narration script checked against your details, plus captions |
| Formats | One aspect ratio per export | Vertical, 4:5, square, widescreen and unbranded MLS, reframed per shot |
| Time for you | 20 to 60 minutes | A few minutes plus review |
The fixed timer is the giveaway. When every photo lasts 2.5 seconds and zooms the same way, the pattern is obvious by the third photo and the viewer swipes. A planned film holds the great room for five seconds and the powder room for one, and that rhythm is most of what makes it feel like a video rather than a gallery.
When a slideshow is fine
- A Facebook album post or a quick story where nobody expects a film.
- A seller update: "Here are the photos the photographer delivered."
- A listing presentation loop on a TV at an open house, with no sound.
- You enjoy editing, have the time, and want every frame your way.
In those cases use what you have. Paying for a listing film tool to make a TV loop is overkill.
When it is not
On Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, where the viewer gives you about two seconds, a slideshow loses to almost anything with a hook. Same on the MLS, where a slideshow adds little beyond the photo gallery right next to it.
Property Video Generator is free for 2 listings a month (watermarked, 720p) so you can compare on a real listing: export your Canva slideshow and our film from the same photos, post both a week apart, and look at watch time rather than views. That comparison is worth more than anything on this page.

Questions
Questions agents ask.
Is Property Video Generator a slideshow maker?
No. It plans an edit: which photos to use, in what order, for how long and with which camera move, then writes and voices a script. You can still change every one of those choices.
Can I make a real estate slideshow in Canva for free?
Canva's free plan has video templates you can use for a basic property slideshow. Some templates and elements need a paid Canva plan.
What is the best photo to video length for a listing?
30 to 60 seconds for most homes. Fewer, better photos make a stronger film than every photo at a fixed duration.
Can I pick the photo order myself?
Yes. Reorder, retime or remove any shot in the editor, or ask the AI Director in plain words.
